Public Forum: 7pm Tuesday 17 April, URC Hall, West Street
Action Greater Bedminster was founded on a commitment to more local involvement in the planning and management of our neighbourhood. We are therefore beginning the process of producing a Community Plan for Greater Bedminster by endeavouring to engage with all those that live and work in the two wards of Southville and Bedminster.
A Community Plan would:
- identify local problems and opportunities
- set out an achievable and long term vision for the future
- prepare a plan of action to achieve this vision
Increasing Government encouragement for public involvement in planning and community empowerment is evident in policy statements and legislation. However, how the public should be involved and empowered is mostly left to local decision makers and practitioners. So we’re organising a public forum to help us decide how to move forward, and to agree what the priorities are.
A first step
Prompted by a timely request from Bristol City Council and the 4 ward Councillors of Bedminster and Southville to consult with our local community on how CIL funds might be spent in Greater Bedminster, we are organising:
- a public forum,17 April from 7pm at the URC Hall on West Street
- an on-line consultation exercise during the week 16-20 April
The deadline for community consultations and producing Stage 1 project proposals that meet Ward CIL/S106 priorities is Friday 4th May 2018.
Our public forum on 17 April will enable us to not only identify priorities for the allocation of CIL in 2018, but also to gather ideas for our Community Plan: issues and aspirations, but also how we can better engage with the local community.
To understand more about CIL and the allocation process, read our Community Infrastructure Levy factsheet.
Your involvement and support
We’re pleased to say that we now have over 25 member groups, and we’re expecting that to grow. But we’re also very keen to encourage everyone living or working in Greater Bedminster to have their say and get involved.
Your views are vital to the success of our Community Planning process. We’ll be sending out further information about the agenda for the Public Forum on 17 April, but in the meantime:
- Put the date in your diary and confirm that you will attend to firstname.lastname@example.org
- Tell others: neighbours, family, friends, work colleagues
We’re working on a website at the moment, so if you want to know more about us do get in touch for a copy of our Constitution, a list of our Exec group and/or a list of our member groups.
Very much hope to see you on the 17th!
